Fear of Spiders Arachnophobia
2-4 Sessions

The fear of Spiders called Arachnophobia normally caused by a mixture of childhood conditioning, evolutionary and other survival instincts together with other traumatic experiences. Many scientists feel that it stems from ancient biological responses to potential threats and learned behaviours from parents and other deep seated physical aversions to unpredictable and erratic movements.
The primary drivers of this fear include:
- Evolutionary Readiness:
Researchers suggest humans are biologically predisposed to notice spiders quickly as a survival mechanism against venomous species. Studies indicate that the brain is hardwired to identify spider shapes instantly to avoid danger. - Learned Behaviour and Conditioning:
Many individuals develop phobias in childhood by observing and mimicking the anxious or panicked reactions of parents or authority figures. - Traumatic Experiences:
Experiencing a negative event, such as being bitten or having a spider unexpectedly crawl on your face, can trigger lasting fear and avoidance - Physical Aversion and Disgust:
Spiders have features that trigger deep feelings of disgust and threat, including enlarged abdomens, multiple legs, and unpredictable, scuttling movements. On Reddit, users broadly agree that this erratic movement pattern, alongside walking face-first into a web, serves as a major catalyst for immediate, instinctive startle responses. - Neurological and Genetic Factors:
Some individuals have an overactive amygdala—the brain's fear centre—which overstimulates the nervous system when a spider is present. A family history of general anxiety disorders can also increase the likelihood of developing a specific phobia.

So far it has been the most effective method of dealing with my anxiety and I wish I had done it years ago."
